YCSO August Awards & Commendations

August Awards GFX with Sheriff's Badge

YORK COUNTY, SC - Please join Sheriff Kevin Tolson, and members of the York County Sheriff's Office family in congratulating the August Awards and Commendations.

August Employees of the Month

  • Deputy Nathan Ferrara was selected for Employee of the Month for August based upon the kindness and compassion that he showed to a York County citizen. Deputy Ferrara conducted a well-being check on an elderly female and learned that the female was upset because her family never comes to visit her and she also had not eaten a decent meal in a few days. Feeling a great deal of compassion for this individual, Deputy Ferrara took it upon himself to buy her lunch out of his own pocket and then spend time with her while she ate. Deputy Ferrara did not look for recognition for his actions and his kind deed was only discovered when his supervisor was conducting a routine review of Deputy Ferrara’s video footage.
  • Court Officer Florence Green - Officer Green was selected for the Employee of the Month for August based on her exceptional work ethic. She handles multiple jobs as well as her own job as Court Officer. She works in Visitation, Booking, assists in Pre-Employment Testing, Background Investigations, and helps with Administrative duties. She has also learned the duties of the mailroom, and has provided back-up service multiple times as needed while the Records Management Clerk is on vacation, etc. She has also taken it upon herself to learn other areas that has made her become a valuable asset to the facility. She works daily without complaint.

Commendations -

  • Deputy Donta McClure is to be commended for his hard work and quick thinking which resulted in a NARCAN save. Deputy McClure responded to a drug overdose and was able to maintain his composure, correctly assess the situation, and take the correct course of action which resulted in a successful NARCAN administration.
  • Sergeant Stacey Sexton is to be commended for her dedication and passion for the Pilgrim’s Inn organization in Rock Hill, SC. Sergeant Sexton organized a Donation Challenge for the York County Detention Center that directly benefitted Pilgrim’s Inn. She organized the entire plan, contacted Pilgrim’s Inn to coordinate needed items, spoke with all shifts, and monitored items being donated. She sent weekly updates to staff on the challenge. She also organized the winning team’s meal after the challenge was completed. Sergeant Sexton stated that she wanted to do something for the community, and was interviewed by several media outlets the day of the donation delivery. Sgt. Sexton represented the York County Sheriff’s Office with professionalism and compassion. The staff at Pilgrim’s Inn were overwhelmingly pleased by the amount of donations that Sergeant Sexton was able to coordinate. Those donations will be able to have a positive benefit to many women and children that are supported through the Pilgrim’s Inn.
