YORK COUNTY, SC – Two York County citizens received Meritorious Public Service Awards for their efforts to keep their community safe while a wanted subject was at large in their neighborhood.  Last night Sheriff Kevin Tolson recognized James and Annette Marlow for their actions in support of the Neighborhood Watch Program and safety of the Cato Estates Community on January 11, 2017.

On January 11, 2017 the York County Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime Team was looking for a man wanted for multiple Federal and local warrants who had been on the run for three (3) months.  After locating the wanted man’s vehicle near Celanese and Ebenezer Road, a short pursuit ensued and the subject subsequently fled on foot in the area of the Cato Estates community in Rock Hill.

While deputies and K-9 units were in the area, Ms. Annette Marlow was in her back yard when she was approached by a deputy who explained that a wanted man was in the area.  Ms. Marlow immediately went inside and called her husband, James Marlow.  As the recently appointed Chairman of the Cato Estates Neighborhood Watch Program, Mr. Marlow asked his wife to begin contacting the area Neighborhood Watch Captains who in turn notified their respective residents of the ongoing situation.    Furthermore, Mr. Marlow came to the subdivision and went door to door to alert certain residents whom he feared may not have received the information to stay inside until the wanted subject was in custody.

The quick thinking and actions of Mr. and Mrs. Marlow led to the community being immediately notified of the risk of a wanted man in the area and most certainly kept everyone safe until the suspect was apprehended.
